Einstein Telescope, a strategic choice

The Italian government is ready to support the financial commitment to host the Einstein Telescope (ET, the major research infrastructure for the study of gravitational waves that Italy has applied to build in Sardinia. The project – included in the European Framework Programme (FP7) and currently in the conceptual study phase – was proposed by eight European institutes active in the field of gravitational wave research and experimentation, including the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN). Astrophysics is an essential component of the project, and INAF, in collaboration with INFN and other institutions and universities, is at the forefront in supporting research and the development of instrumentation for astrophysical observations from the ground and space. We spoke about this with the Minister for Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, who is particularly attentive and active on these issues that are dear to us.
