As previously announced, the Regional Government of Sardinia, on the proposal of President Alessandra Todde, has established the Project Unit to support the candidacy of the Sos Enattos mining site in Lula to host the Einstein Telescope.
«Our efforts to support Sardinia’s candidacy to host the Einstein Telescope continue», stated President Todde. «Following the allocation of €350 million, the green light for the creation of the Research Center, and hosting the G7 on Science at Sos Enattos», she continued, «the establishment of the Project Unit is another key step to ensure we do not miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Sardinia».
The unit will be responsible for technically coordinating, within the Region’s responsibilities, all the activities necessary for drafting the Bid Book, the dossier accompanying the candidacy, which must be submitted by 2025. It will also oversee engaging regional entities to acquire documentation and preliminary opinions required for the construction of the infrastructure, should Sardinia be awarded the project in 2026.
Specifically, the Project Unit will be tasked with defining and implementing political and cultural initiatives to support Sos Enattos’ candidacy. It will coordinate and execute the activities carried out by the multilevel governance and collaborate with the Research and Innovation Area of the Regional Programming Center, which remains the reference point for preparatory research activities and projects for the candidacy.
«The Project Unit», Todde concluded, «will play a fundamental role in coordination and technical support, essential for achieving this important goal for the future of our inland areas and the entire island».
