Today, at the “G. Lilliu” auditorium of Isre in Nuoro, the President of the Region, Alessandra Todde, signed an agreement between the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and institutional and territorial partners to create a multi-level governance framework supporting and promoting the candidacy of Sos Enattos to host the Einstein Telescope.
“Collaboration between institutions at every level is essential”, emphasized President Todde. “The Einstein Telescope project belongs to everyone, which is why cooperation with mayors, who are in direct contact with local communities, is of fundamental importance”.
The Councilor for Local Authorities, Francesco Spanedda, highlighted the opportunities that the Einstein Telescope will bring to the region and the entire island. “This project”, he stated”, makes us realize that what have always been seen as structural weaknesses – such as a scarcity of activities, low population density, and marginality, which characterize many of our territories – can instead become strengths capable of attracting innovative activities and fostering new forms of investment”.
“The agreement signed today”, added the Councilor, “is not just about the facility itself but also about the economic and social benefits it will generate for the region”.
The program agreement was signed by the Region along with the municipalities of Lula, Bitti, Onanì, and Orune; the provincial capitals of Cagliari, Sassari, Nuoro, Oristano, Olbia, Tempio Pausania, Lanusei, Tortolì, Carbonia, Iglesias, Sanluri, and Villacidro; the Province of Nuoro; the Unions of Municipalities “Montalbo,” “Valle del Cedrino,” “Barbagia,” “Marghine,” “Riviera di Gallura,” and “Logudoro”; the Mountain Communities “Nuorese, Gennargentu, Supramonte, Barbagia,” “Gennargentu, Mandrolisai,” “Goceano,” and “Monte Acuto”; Anci Sardinia; the Council of Local Authorities of Sardinia; Asel, Ali Sardegna, Uncem, and Aiccre. Additionally, the municipalities affected by the Decree-Law of February 24, 2023, Alà dei Sardi, Benetutti, Buddusò, Dorgali, Galtellì, Irgoli, Loculi, Lodè, Nule, Oliena, Osidda, Padru, Pattada, Siniscola, and Torpè, participated in the ratification of the agreement.
According to the document, the signatories commit to jointly supporting the candidacy of Sos Enattos; contributing to the development of a Local Development Plan to enhance the entire region, with a focus on the municipalities of Lula, Bitti, Onanì, Orune, and the city of Nuoro, as well as the industrial areas along the Olbia-Nuoro-Oristano corridor; and collaborating – each within their respective roles – with the Control room and Project Unit to strengthen the candidacy of Sos Enattos by developing the necessary infrastructure, both territorial and social, as well as creating and/or strengthening ecosystems for culture, education, production, and the environment.
“This morning as well”, explained President Todde, “I discussed the project with the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, demonstrating that when there is shared commitment, things happen, resources are found, and obstacles are overcome. When dealing with such significant issues, political affiliation does not matter”.
