On Tuesday, 15 September, at the Cagliari Astronomical Observatory of the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), the Ambassador of Switzerland to Italy, Roberto Balzaretti, met with regional and national representatives of the Einstein Telescope (ET) project, who presented the project’s scientific objectives and the actions being undertaken to support the Italian candidacy to host the future research infrastructure. The visit took place as part of the Sardinian leg of the “On the Road with Switzerland” initiative, which is taking Ambassador Balzaretti to all Italian regions by the end of 2027.
Among the topics discussed during the meeting were the strategic value of research infrastructures, exemplified in Sardinia by the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT), operated by INAF, and the current state of scientific cooperation between Italy and Switzerland, particularly in the context of ET.
In addition to the Ambassador and his delegation, the meeting was attended by Federica Govoni (INAF), Alessandra Scaffidi Abate (INAF), Alessandro Cardini (INFN), Alberto Masoni (INFN), Carlo Giunchi (INGV), Gianni Fenu (University of Cagliari), Domenico D’Urso (University of Sassari), Raffaele Marras (Sardinia Regional Government), Roberto Cimino (Ministry of University and Research), and Steven Schramm (University of Geneva).
