The organizational structure supporting the candidacy of the former Sos Enattos mining site in Lula to host the Einstein Telescope is being finalized. The Regional Government, following a proposal by President Alessandra Todde, has approved the establishment of the “Einstein Telescope (ET) Sos Enattos” steering committee, thus implementing the resolution passed on October 23, 2024. The body will be coordinated by the President and will include the Regional Ministers for Planning, General Affairs, Local Authorities, Industry, Public Works, and Labor, as well as the mayors of the project area (Lula, Bitti, Onanì, Orune) and the mayor of Nuoro.

«The Einstein Telescope project – stated President Todde – is among the top priorities of the Regional Government’s agenda, which is why an internal multilevel governance structure is necessary to strengthen the candidacy».

The steering committee will carry out coordination activities to guide and manage both the political and technical aspects of the initiatives supporting Sos Enattos’ candidacy, including the allocation of resources and the development of policies. Depending on the specific issues addressed, additional Regional Ministries, Entities, and Agencies may be involved. Furthermore, depending on the topic, key trade unions, employer organizations, provincial capital municipalities, municipal associations, unions of municipalities, and the Comunità Montane Area Vasta will also be engaged.

«The involvement of so many Regional Ministries and institutional stakeholders in the Steering Committee – emphasized the President – demonstrates how the Einstein Telescope project goes beyond the purely scientific dimension and affects the territory and its development potential in every sense: from the economy to employment, from infrastructure to welfare, and from culture to the environment».

The coordination body complements other measures already adopted by the Regional Government in support of the candidacy. These include: the creation of a Project Unit; the signing of a program agreement in March between the Region and institutional and territorial partners; the establishment of a Promoting Committee with universities and research bodies; the agreement with the GARR Consortium; and the call for expressions of interest from businesses in the ET technological fields.

For the Einstein Telescope, the Region has already allocated €350 million as its co-financing share with the Ministry of Universities, €20 million for the refurbishment of the Minghetti Dam, needed to improve water resource management in the area, and funding for the upgrading of the access road to the ET SUnLab Research Center, which will be built on the site of the former Ri.Mi.Sa. and co-financed by the Region with an additional €10 million.
